Best Golf Story Ever

One of my favorite sports writers, Bill Simmons at ESPN.com, recently wrote a column that included a funny section on how everybody loves to tell a fantasy football war story, but no one wants to listen to them. It struck me that this is EXACTLY the same in golf. At the conclusion of every round, we sit together, each of us desperate to explain how the forces of nature and other golfers conspired together to rob us of a stroke (or three or four), pretending to listen to the others and hoping

Glen Campbell, the Rhinestone Cowboy, was an avid golfer who helped restore prestige to the Los Angeles Open

The Los Angeles Open in 1971 was languishing, notwithstanding its long history that included chapters on Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, the latter of whom earned his first professional check in the tournament, $33.33, in 1962.Then Glen Campbell stepped in.An extraordinarily successful entertainer whose roots were in country music, the Rhinestone Cowboy, as he later was known, became the host of the tournament, rechristened the Glen Campbell Los Angeles Open, and helped

After PGA win, let Thomas-Spieth rivalry begin

A month ago Justin Thomas swigged beer from the Claret Jug won at the British Open by his good friend, Jordan Spieth. On Sunday, by winning the PGA Championship, Thomas joined Spieth as the youngest winners of a major currently on Tour, both of them just 24 years old.And just maybe a rivalry for the ages has been born, one that could go a long way toward filling the void left by Tiger Woods' disappearance from golf. With his three majors already, Spieth is the golden boy of his sport, a young

The History of The PGA Championship

The PGA Championship (often referred to as the U.S. PGA Championship or U.S. PGA outside of the United States) is an annual golf tournament conducted by the Professional Golfers' Association of America. It is one of the four major championships in professional golf, and it is the golf season's final major, played in mid-August on the third weekend prior to Labor Day weekend. Jhonattan Vegas defends RBC Canadian Open title in playoff over Charley Hoffman

For the second straight year, Jhonattan Vegas entered the final round of the RBC Canadian Open needing a low score to even bring winning into consideration. He did it in 2016 with a final-round eight-under 64 at Glen Abbey Golf Course, and repeated the feat on Sunday, posting a seven-under 65 that was enough to get into a sudden-death playoff against Charley Hoffman, which he won with a birdie on the first playoff hole.Vegas, 32, began the day three shots off the lead but quickly closed that gap
